P/V Supplier: Nice Print Photography
We got a P/V supplier already!!! This isn't honestly a surprise to anyone already because I had my eyes on it since I started researching for a P/V. Okay, so I wanted Camzar originally, but they were already booked. Chestknot Studios would have been perfect, too, but they were just too expensive.
I think Nice Print is a good choice, anyway. It's reliable, and has the experience to justify paying six figures.
I know the fiance would have wanted a little less expensive P/V supplier, but what the heck, this is 90% my wedding (LOL), so I get to decide on this oh-so-important supplier.
Anyway, Nice Print has a pretty nice offer, too, so I just can't let it pass.
Originally, their Exige Premium Package is priced at P160,000. But since we booked them during the Themes and Motif' bridal fair, they offered to cut off P10,000 from it plus a free aerial videography worth P20,000 and after a little cajoling, a waived out-of-town fee for Tagaytay.
In total, I got a discount of P40,000. Not bad, eh?
Here are the inclusions:
3 professional photographers
3 videomen
3 lightsmen
Unlimited shots in DVD in leather case
Edited MTV style in DVD output / Bluray HD
40 pages storybook layout in:
12x12 premium Italian album with box or
11x14 Italian hardbound album with photo cover
20x24 blow up photo canvass in special frame
On-site photo slideshow
On-site video editing
2 parents album
Prenuptial photo shoot with concept and location shoot (3 set ups)
10x8 coffeebook style guestbook with photos from prenuptial shoot
Save-the-date video
LESS: P10,000
PLUS: Free aerial videography
Waived OOT fee for Tagaytay (worth P5,000)
We just paid a reservation fee first, and then make a downpayment of 30% by next month. I'm pretty convinced we made the right choice about this supplier. I just hope they don't make me pose like an artista because I am truly not as maarte as I sound.
I know there are far better P/V supplier out there, but with the budget I'm working with, I'm satisfied we still get to have a reputable one to preserve our wedding memories.
Themes and Motif 2015 Wedding Expo
Last September 12, I attended Themes and Motif's wedding expo at the SMX Convention Center in Mall of Asia. I initially planned to go there with a close friend (one of my bridesmaids), but it turned out the fiance's team building wasn't pushing through. But since we are repainting our future home, and only have the weekends to do it, I decided to just go there early and have a shortlist of photo/video suppliers (because booking a P/V was really my goal that day).
I arrived at around 11AM, an hour after the expo opened. There were already lots of people then, but not as much as during lunch when the fiance arrived. The first booth upon entering was Nice Print Photoraphy's because they were a sponsor of the event. We all know about Nice Print, right? The P/V to the stars. This is on top of my list already because I really wanted one supplier for my photo and video.
(Okay, confession time: I want Camzar Photography but they were booked already when I asked).
The girl I talked to is giving me P10,000 less on their Exige Premium Package plus a free aerial videography worth P20,000 if you get it as add-on. I was really tempted to just book it right there and then, and have my lunch already. But, I remembered I promised the fiance I'll wait for him and actually look for more promising P/V suppliers.
I walked and looked around, and was astounded as just how many kaartehan one can have in a wedding. I also looked around at some of Edward Teng's bridal collection because I just might have to book a supplier here no thanks to the Bureau of Customs' new policy on bringing in "luxury items" in the Philippines. I'll be going to New York this November for the holidays, and was planning to buy my gown there, but lo and behold, here comes BOC to ruin all my plans.
There are a couple of other designers during the expo, but none of them actually stole my attention. For some reason, Rosa Clara and Pronovias still speak volumes in my head (although I just cannot justify the price).
If you're a soon-to-be-bride, these wedding fairs are not to be missed. Practically all wedding suppliers--from low-end to high-end--were there, and the discounts and freebies were to die for! I wanted to book Invitations by Kenneth Uy because I found a really cute invite there, but my mom (who's going to pay for it) found it "cheap." So, I scratched trying to find an invitation because she wanted to just get it from the States. Bahala na. Hehe.
The fiance arrived a little before noontime and boy, was the hall packed by then. I was worried he'd be irritated by the crowd. He doesn't do well when it's crowded and hot. Luckily, he's on a jovial mood and was actually quite curious to go around the hall. I pointed out Nice Print to him, of course. He knew why we were there in the first place.
I shortlisted Paul Vincent Photography, too, but I'm just not willing to shell out more for less (although I know the quality of his shots are better). I'll explain on my P/V post.
So, we went around the booths, and he pointed out a couple of things we can consider in the future. The wedding's in a year, so I don't want to rush into booking suppliers. I just handpicked a couple of suppliers I'll be checking out again such as Kenneth Uy, Dragon Fireworks, Edward Teng, and Sensitivity Lights & Sounds because they have the country-style light bulbs I am looking for.
There were wedding bands for sale there, too. Some of them were nearly 50% off! Such a good deal, but we made up our minds about where we're getting our wedding rings, so we didn't dare look anymore. I just jokingly told him that he should've gotten my engagement ring during a bridal fair, too, so he could have had a huge discount! Men know nothing. Lol!
We passed by a number of cake suppliers also, but I'm considering just settling for the caterer's free cake instead of paying for something nobody will eat anyway.
We stayed for about an hour or so. After which, we just decided on a P/V, and went home to start repainting/cleaning.
Just a word of advice for brides-to-be, go to the fair early. All the ates and kuyas are still in a happy mood since the day is just starting, and there's not much people to compete with. Once the crowd thickened, I swear I practically saw my patience dip a hundred notches. I don't do well in crowds, and I know most people don't too.
Also, be prepared to book the supplier you have your eye on. If they offered you a great deal already, just go ahead and have your date reserved. Most of them just require a small reservation fee, anyway, and not really a huge downpayment.
That being said, bring cash with you. They don't have terminals for ATM in their booths, and they certainly don't have one for credit cards. I'm sure you'll be doing your research already before going to the fair, so you have an inkling of how much you need for which supplier.
Lastly, have someone with you--your fiance would be better, but if he's not available, have a friend or your mom with you. While waiting for the fiance, I Facetimed with my mom, so someone can stop me from impulsively booking whatever supplier I laid my eyes on. It's important to always have someone to counter/support your decisions when it comes to choosing suppliers. Remember that you will have to work with these suppliers for the duration of your wedding preparation, so you have to make sure they're up to the task and they can deliver what you have agreed upon.
I tend to get attracted very easily by discounts and freebies, which is why I never go to the mall when it's a big sale, so I needed my mom (and the fiance, at times, LOL) to stop me from the impulse of buying.

The WEDDING DATE
We finally have a wedding date!!! It’s going to be on
October 15, 2016 at Our Lady of Lourdes Parish in Tagaytay. The reception will
be held at the Hill Creek Gardens in Alfonso, Cavite.
How did we end up choosing the church and the venue?
Simple. We didn’t dissect it into tiny little pieces. We went along with the
flow. Well, the fiancé went along with what I want, anyway. He only had an
inkling of where and when I want it to be, so he got a little surprised that I
already have a specific month in mind. I think he wanted it earlier, but
there’s no way I will get married during the summer season. This country is too
hot and humid for a June wedding.
Thankfully, Lourdes Church has an open slot for a weekend
wedding in October. The 29th was open as well, but that’s too near
the holiday, and I don’t want my guests to get stuck in traffic on their way to
my wedding. The 15th is a safe bet, barring the inclement weather
conditions here. But I don’t want to sweat that out just yet.
The reception venue was a little tricky. At first. There
were just too many to choose from. I shortlisted Tagaytay Highlands, Taal Vista
Hotel and of course, Hill Creek Gardens. The problem is, we both don’t have the
time to have ocular inspections of all these places. I wanted to book the
church and the venue on the same day since the fiancé only have a few days off
from work.
So, after booking Lourdes Church, we drove over to Hill
Creek Gardens in Alfonso. I have a secret pact with myself that if I find no
major flaw with Hill Creek, we’re going to push for it. I already fell in love
with the place anyway. It’s just a matter of sealing that love with the actual
version of the place. It was quite a drive from Lourdes, which works for me
because I wanted to spend time with the hubby (to be) after the wedding
ceremony and before the reception.
Hill Creek is a short drive after the Alfonso-Tagaytay
border. It’s hard to miss it since signs are everywhere. Immediately after
arriving, I already fell hard for the entrance to the place. The guard was
courteous, and the driveway was stunning with the creek on the right and the
lush greeneries on the left.
There was a suspended walkway near the parking area and
the entrance to the lobby, which is a good place to have photos taken before
the reception takes place. We were greeted by the receptionist and introduced
to our events manager (Ms. Ann) for the ocular. She first took us upstairs to
show the pavilion, where they hold indoor weddings. The place can accommodate
up to two weddings in a day because they have an indoor and outdoor venue.
But I wanted the garden venue, and I told her so. She
took us downstairs to show the gazebo where a Christian ceremony can take
place, and also where cocktails for events in the pavilion are held. She said
the pavilion and the gazebo are included in the same package while the main
garden (the one with the bridge and the view of the chapel) and the adjacent
smaller garden belong to the same package.
There was no doubt in my mind I wanted a garden
reception. We both decided to have a rustic theme, and nothing says rustic than
having it outdoors, right? My only problem is that October is still a rainy
season. We inquired about their tents, and they said it’s for an additional
P25,000, which actually works for us. We did not think twice and booked the
garden venue for the wedding. Maybe I’ll just pray endlessly for good weather
on my wedding day.
Here's the photo of Hill Creek's venue for their garden reception:
We took Hill Creek’s all-in wedding package, which
includes catering for 150 people by their in-house caterer, Three Bridges
Catering, flower arrangements for the tables (which looks really elegant in
photos but we still have to check that out), basic flower setup for the church,
a complimentary one-night stay in their bridal suite, and other amenities.
I initially wanted to take care of every tiny detail of
our wedding, so I planned to just book Hill Creek as a venue, and have a
separate caterer, florist, stylist, but life would be easier if I just don’t
complicate things and just let Hill Creek handle everything. I don’t really
want to be disturbed with questions about the ingress and egress, etc., so let
the coordinator handle that. Plus, it’s more budget friendly. Since we’re also
fixing our new home, I prefer to save my energy for that.
And so we finally made a deposit on both our church and
our reception. I only needed to fix and confirm a few things with Hill Creek
(like the styling, flower arrangements, lights and sounds), and we’re all set.
On to my next challenge… finding a photo/video team.

Choosing the Church and the Reception Venue
It was an easy decision for us to get married in Tagaytay
City (okay, there were some contentions at first, but I won eventually). We are both from Cavite, and there is no way we will get married outside
this province. We initially wanted to try and get married in St. Mary Magdalene
Parish Church in Kawit. That was where I grew up, where I was baptized, etc.
while his uncle was the parish priest there for 13 years before passing away.
To say that the church holds significance to both of us is an understatement.
Plus, have you seen how beautiful that church is? All Spanish bricks and
floor-to-ceiling altar—magnificent!!!
The problem is we cannot find a decent reception venue
near Kawit. Island Cove is a no-no for me. I never liked their food, and I
never liked the ambiance of the place. It was too Filipino for my taste and
liking. We would have wanted to have our reception at Josephine’s Restaurant in
Kawit because that’s where the fiance’s parents had their wedding reception
(after getting married at St. Mary), but it was already closed.
I checked out a garden venue near LTO in Kawit, but it
didn’t pass my standards. So, we went back to the original plan—to have it in
Tagaytay.
Here is a list of churches in and near Tagaytay. I would
have wanted to get married at The Transfiguration Chapel in Caleruega, but
that’s already in Batangas and we have to get married in Cavite.

On Budget and Priorities
Before we decided on our wedding date, we first sat down,
discussed and agreed upon our target budget. I know for a fact this has been a
boon of existence for many couples and I kind of understand why. We tend to
under-budget when we plan for something because it makes it easier to organize
or even think about the event when we “feel” like we can afford it.
But I’m a realist, and a practical person at best. I
learned my lesson the hard way never to underestimate my taste. So as much as I
want to lean towards making it seem like we’re going to have a cheaper wedding,
I can’t. I don’t want to fool the fiancé into thinking he’s going to shell out
just this amount of money when he actually needs to work harder! Hahaha! Okay,
I’m bad.
So, even before we decided on a date, I already made a
checklist and a chart of the things we need to pay for the wedding, which I
will share here because I think every bride needs to know the ins and outs of
her upcoming nuptials. Also, it’s always nice to be prepared for the expenses,
so we don’t get the shock of our lives when the due dates come.

Some couples tend to decide on their motif and theme
first before discussing the budget. Well, that’s okay for people who have the
cash to burn. But for us mortal folks, I always believe discussing about the
money matter first will go a long way toward a harmonious wedding planning
period.
Here is the initial chart I made about my expected
expenses for our wedding. This is a wedding in Tagaytay City, so prices may be
a little steep. I already included some elbow room for out-of-town fees. I
don’t want to be burdened by a P10,000 OOT fee after my reception. I kind of
decided to pay off all my dues, except for the photo and video, before the
wedding date itself. It’ll make it easier for me to enjoy the day when I know
all the dues have been settled.
So there, try and talk about the nitty-gritty of the
wedding expenses. As much as we would like to think a wedding is not about the
money, the reality is it is (unless, of course, you will invite no one, and you
don’t plan to buy yourselves rings too). It is impossible to talk about getting
married without discussing how much it would cost you.
And promise, you wouldn’t want to spend the next few
months arguing and haggling about how much you’re shelling out for the wedding.
That’s really the first thing on my mind: to get the wedding budget off the
table. I want it a close topic by the time I start planning our wedding (of
course, when it comes to money, nothing is really final, but I know you get my
drift).
